Get started as captain
Your access code, your roster, and the captain's portal.
Get started as captain
When you registered, you chose "Create a new team" and the system generated an access code for you. That code is the secret that lets your teammates join the team without you having to approve each one. You also got an email with a link to your Captain's Portal.
What's in the portal
Open the Captain's Portal link and you'll see:
- Your team name, access code, and roster count ("4 of 12 filled")
- A list of current team members with their payment and waiver status
- An Invite teammates box with email input and bulk paste
- Chat — a real-time thread for your team (see Use team chat)
- Schedule — your team's games, once the organizer publishes them
- Transfer captaincy — promote another paid player to captain
Share the access code
The fastest way to fill a roster is to text the access code to the people you already know are playing. They go to /register, pick the same sport and division, and enter your code on the team step. They pay themselves — you're not on the hook for their fees.
If you'd rather email the invite with the registration link pre-filled, use the Invite teammates box in the portal. It sends a formatted email with the team name, access code, and a direct link.
Setting expectations
Remind your team:
- They pay their own registration, not you
- Waivers are required before check-in (a yellow flag on game day)
- Younger than 18 needs a parent signature on the waiver
- Everyone needs to fill in emergency contact info
If someone needs to drop
They can email you, and you pass their refund request to the organizer. The organizer processes the refund based on the event's refund policy. If you (the captain) need to drop, you have to transfer captaincy first — the system blocks captain refunds until someone else can take the team.
Game day basics
- Arrive 30 minutes before your first game for check-in
- Bring your access code just in case
- Designate someone on your team to report scores after each game
- If Ultimate, pick one person to submit the SOTG score for the other team
